Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and as a charity that was founded in Middlesbrough in 1960, we are very proud to have been adopted by Middlesbrough Council, as their charity of the year for 2010.
Our running team is called the Banana Army after their bright yellow shirts - and it's all about having fun and doing something really positive to beat blood cancers. Why not lace up your trainers and join the Banana Army? Everyone is welcome.

One in three people will receive a cancer diagnosis at some point in their lives and 2 million people are living with cancer. Macmillan provides practical, medical, emotional and financial support to people affected by cancer.
If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer you want to know you’re in the best hands. Across Teesside Macmillan have a team of nurses working in hospitals and the community with expert knowledge about specific cancers and cancer care.
Macmillan Cancer Support have information and support centres in James Cook Hospital, North Tees Hospital and the University Hospital of Hartlepool. When you or someone you love is affected by cancer, having the right information at the right time is essential. The support centres provide up to date information about people living with cancer, for the patients, families and friends.
When someone has been diagnosed with cancer, money might not be one of the first things they think about. But having cancer can be expensive in ways people never would have expected. That’s why Macmillan run a benefits advice helpline and have a benefits advice service in Teesside to offer help with things like applying for benefits, health costs, transport concessions and tax credits.

Butterwick Hospice - www.butterwick.org.uk
Butterwick House is located in Stockton-on-Tees in the North East of England. The Hospice provides care and support free of charge to children with life limiting illnesses from birth to 18 years of age and supports their families.
Butterwick House is staffed by skilled and experienced professionals and trained volunteers. We work in partnership with families and other professionals involved in each child's care.
At Butterwick House the focus is on each child enjoying their stay while family members take a break from round the clock caring responsibilities.
In order to provide our services freely to the families in our care we need to raise funds. It will cost over £800,000 this year to ensure the children are able to enjoy all the facilities and care available at Butterwick House.
Each participant running for Butterwick House Children’s hospice will receive sponsor forms and a t-shirt and a medal. They can also come and visit us on the day in our gazebo.

Teesside Hospice - www.teessidehospice.org
Teesside Hospice Care Foundation based in Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, was established in 1982 to enhance the lives of local people suffering from life limiting illnesses in the Teesside region free of charge. The Hospice cares for over 3,000 individuals each year.
Individuals are cared for within Teesside Hospice when they are suffering from any progressive disease such as Advanced Cancer, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Heart Disease, and other life limiting illnesses.

Most people are surprised to learn that our annual running costs are in excess of £2.1 million. We receive in the region of one third of these costs from the local NHS and must therefore raise approximately £4,100 each and every day of the year from our own resources, most of which is generated by the activities of our Trading Company.

South Cleveland Heart Fund is a local charity established in 1995 to raise money to support the Cardiothoracic Unit at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough in its work and research.
All monies raised are used to fund research and to purchase equipment that will benefit patients admitted to the Cardiothoracic Unit.

“Diabetes UK is the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes, funding research, campaigning and helping people live with the condition. There are currently over 2.5 million people with diabetes in the UK and more than half a million people who have the condition but don’t yet know it. By 2025 it is estimated that the total figure will be around 4 million.
Type 2 diabetes, the most common form, representing over 85% of the diabetes population is inextricably linked to obesity, sedentary lifestyles and is potentially preventable. Type 2 diabetes can be undetected for up to 12 years by which time 50% of people already have serious complications.
Diabetes UK receives no Government funding and relies on the generous donations of supporters to continue to provide our care services and continue the research into finding a cure. The Finlay Cooper Fund is a registered charity set up by former Boro star Colin Cooper and his wife Julie, in memory of their son who they lost at a very young age as a result of a choking accident.
The fund supports children’s causes in the north east and further afield and to date has distributed tens of thousands of pounds to children’s hospices, individual children with various illnesses and other worthy children’s causes.
We hope to be able to recruit a number of Colin’s former colleagues at the Boro to join us on the Middlesbrough 10k and would be delighted if you wanted to become part of our team and helped us to raise more funds for children’s causes.
All volunteers will be supplied with a Finlay Cooper T shirt and sponsorship forms and if you guarantee to raise over £50 for us, we will pay your race entry fee.

Holistic Cancer Care Centre - http://www.holisticcancercarecentre.org.uk/
The Holistic Cancer Care Centre is a self funding charity, based in the grounds of the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough that provides complementary healthcare treatments, support and advice to cancer patients and their main carers free of charge. Around 150 treatments are given each week and the Centre needs to raise £200,000 per annum to continue to provide this very worthwhile and beneficial service that helps cancer patients through their chemotherapy/radiotherapy and beyond. Although based on a hospital site the Holistic Cancer Care Centre does not received any NHS funding.
